Victory Over Sin

It’s a common concern many Christians struggle with: “If I’m forgiven by God and a new creation in Christ, why am I so often defeated when trying to deal areas of sin in my life?”

The reality is that all of us as believers will face an ongoing fight with our flesh until Christ returns and we’re glorified. The good news is that because Christ has defeated sin and Satan, we too can overcome our flesh through the power of the Spirit within us.

The difference between victory and defeat depends whether you’re walking in the Spirit or walking in your flesh. That simply means, which one of these two are you submitted to, obeying and living to please. Every Christian only has these two options, you’re either walking in one or the other!

Galatians 5:16-17 gives every true believer biblical hope and a scriptural solution to living victoriously over sin no matter what kind you’re dealing with.

“(16) But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. (17) For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.”

God’s forgiven and freed you from sin’s penalty and power and given you a new nature in Christ. Now it’s up to you to choose to walk in the Spirit and not your flesh. By doing so you’re assured of ongoing victory over sin and Satan and God is guaranteed to get all the glory!
