Experiencing God’s Peace

Peace is something I think every one of us is looking for. No one wants inner turmoil or likes being anxious and upset inside. Because we all long for peace we often look to people, places and possessions to find it, but never really do. Even when we do experience those few times when everything seems to be going well, it never seems to last very long. The problem isn’t that peace can’t be found, it’s just you need to know where to look to find it!

As Christians we’re told the kind of peace, we’re looking for isn’t found in this world. It’s not in people you know, the places you go or possessions you own, but in the Person of Jesus Christ. Jesus reminds every true believer that He is your peace. That He alone provides you a peace that the world can’t give, and the world can’t take away. Jesus tells us in John 14:27 and 16:33 that true peace isn’t found in the things of this world, but in our relationship with Him.

“(27) “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

“(33) “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

This kind of peace can’t be purchased, because it’s a free gift that Christ gives you. The peace that Jesus provides isn’t dependent on your outward physical circumstances, but on your inward spiritual state and relationship with Him. Because of this, you can experience Christ’s peace no matter what’s going on around you.

The next time you lose your peace and go looking for it, remember that it’s only found in Jesus. All this fallen world can offer you is temporal peace found in people, places and possessions. But lasting peace is always yours as precious gift to you in Christ.
