Chico is such a beautiful little town and we are growing in every way. Unfortunately, the homeless problem is growing with us. There are “shifting sands” everywhere, especially among those who’ve landed on the streets. I became homeless for a few years here in Chico in the 90’s. I was in my forties and thought I had lost everything.
The only hope that could endure for me was in the Lord Jesus. Going back to Him I have a new life that is truly blessed no matter how much I lost! The “streets of gold” will last forever! It has been a long, hard road getting back on my feet, but I have been rich ever since I came back to the Lord. Now I love nothing more than to offer that hope to others who have lost their way in Chico.
The Jesus Center offers a bare minimum of provisions for our homeless; it’s enough to keep people fed and then point them to resources that can get them back on their feet. Most of all, there are some committed believers who offer the Lord Jesus. Right now we have a lineup of teachers who love God’s Word and teach it every morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am. I get to lead the Bible discussion on Wednesdays. Of course, we cover lots of “recovery issues,” but none of that matters unless they are founded on the Bible through the grace of the Gospel.
At Chico Bible Church I get grounded on the foundation of His Word. My “recovery” is based on nothing less than Jesus Christ and His righteousness. I am grateful for Pastor Kirk and the family at CBC. They help keep my feet planted on the “Rock” so I can share at the Jesus Center on the basis of His grace and truth.
2Ti 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
How we need the Lord and those who call on Him with a pure heart! Anyone can come to these meetings. If you are interested in a morning fellowship–come on in at 8:30 Wednesdays!
